Should I Be Concerned About Swollen Lymph Gland On The Right Side Of Jaw?
I have a swollen lymph gland on the right side below the jaw. The swelling is about the size of a small golf ball. I noticed it a week ago but it is still the same. There is no tenderness when I press it. I also have an itchy roof of my mouth which I have had for a few weeks - I am not sure if that is connected. Also I have recently got a cat which I might be allergic to. Please could you let me know if tthis might be dangerous?
Small golf ball sized swelling on right side of jaw should be taken as serious unless proved otherwise. The commonest causes are as follows: - Submandibular salivary gland - Lymph node - Any sort of a cyst
If the swelling increases on eating anything then it is most probably salivary gland swelling. The commonest reason is a stone in the duct. Ultrasound and still better the CT scan of the affected area gives best idea, relevant tests of blood, FNAC if this is lymph node to know the probable cause. All these will lead to a specific treatment and thus gives a plan for specific treatment. Stone needs surgery.
