Should I Be Concerned Of Having Swelling On My Left Ankle?

My husband just had physical and all his blood work came out clear. He is 57 and exercises regularly. Yesterday his left ankle became swollen with no trauma. His doctor said it could be gout or a blood clot. He told him to see how it goes for a couple of days and come back if it doesn t go away. Should we be concerned? How long should we wait? Tonight his ankle and foot are even more swollen. He saw his doctor this morning.

Hello,
swelling only in one joint can be due to gout or may be due to blood clot. I would like to add other arthritis also in the list of causes. See your doctor, and if require he needs to go for color doppler of leg or to take out fluid from joint swelling for investigation to find out the cause. If swelling is increasing, than there is no point to wait.
Hope this will help
