Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello my name is Erika . I have a question recently my heart has been beating a little faster. It has been at 101 and today it was 117. I am not taking medications and as far as I know I am not ill. I was just sitting while taking my pressure. Should I be concerned?
Thanks for your query. Many things can increase the heart rate over 100, most typically stress, exercise, fever, stimulants including caffeine, chocolate, tea, nicotine and rarely, metabolic problems of the thyroid.
I would recommend to take your pulse at different times of the day, and keep a log. If at all times, even just after waking up or going to bed, it is elevated over 100, then it should be looked into further.
Hope that helps wish you the best,
