Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Should I Be Worried About Heart Racing, Dizziness When Diagnosed With HBP?
I have been diagnosed w/ HBP, approximately 4 yrs ago. Currently taking metoprolol & niphedipine once a day. Today I bent over and stood back up-my heart started racing and I felt dizzy about 10-15 min. This is first time this has happened-should I be worried?
Thanks for the query. Orthostatic hypotension is a condition in which the blood pressure drops and the heart rate increases as a response to position changes, such as bending over or standing from a sitting position. It is increasingly common in patients who take medications for blood pressure. It tends to be benign, and the recommendation is to make those position changes very slowly, and if symptoms develop, try to sit down as soon as possible and cross the legs and arms to increase blood pressure.
Hope this helps, wish you the best,
