Should I Be Worried About Yellow Mucus Like Liquid Coming Out From Anus?

I have a light yellow mucus like liquid coming from my anus that has a distinct smell. No diarrhea. Been feeling fine otherwise. I am a CNA and have seen this kind of stuff long ago. I am just worried that I have what my patient had at that time. Cannot remember what they called it though.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

The liquid you have notices is mucus indeed. Intestine cells constantly produce it so the stool can easily travel through intestines. If everything works fine, mucus is unnoticeable. However in case of constipation, large intestine polyp, infection, inflammatory bowels disease, mucus can be be visible coming from the anus.
Sometimes it can be the first symptom of colon cancer.
That is why I suggest you to do not ignore it. Please start with diet improvement (increase fiber rich products) and probiotic intake. If this wont help, stool tests should be done. If you are over 50, colonoscopy is necessary.

Hope this will help.
Regards.
