Hi I just had some blood work done and am worried about the results. My globulin is 1.9, my Iron (Fe) is 42, my ferritin is 20.5 and my b12 is 1600. What does this iindicate? The doctor said it was "normal" but I see high B12, low iron and low protein....

Pathologist and Microbiologist, Dr. Jyothi B L's Response
Hi, Thanks for asking. Based on your clinical history and query, my opinion is as follows: 1. Yes the data is worrisome. You need to improve your serum iron is low and needs to be incresed either through diet or medication. 2. B12 is high and is usually very much abnormal. Further evaluation is requried for the cause as many inflammations and even tumors are commonly seen in high vitamin B12 conditions. 3. Globulin levels is low. Increase your protein intake through fish, eggs, red meat, pulses, nuts etc. Followup the tests after one month to look at improvement. Hope it helps. Any further queries, happy to help again.
