Should I Take Insulin For These Fasting Blood Sugar Levels?
Hi doctor I have very high diabetes fasting 338 PP 412 Can I go for insulin. Will it help me to ccontrol blood sugar immediately. As I hv been on sugar control pills and they are not tht effective. Taking insulin has wht side effects. Will I become habitual. My age is 39
Insulin is recommended. Based on the history your blood glucose did not seem to be controlled with sugar control pills hence insulin should be taken. Its common side effects include hypoglycemia which is more likely to occur if you do not take meals after taking insulin, unusual physical activities, or an increased insulin dose.
It can also cause atrophy or hypertrophy of subcutaneous fatty tissue due to repeated injection at the same site. It is not a habit forming drug but to control your blood glucose and HbA1c you need to take it on regular basis as prescribed.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician and Fetal Medicine
