Should Steel Rods Be Removed From Back After A Surgery For Pain Relief?

I had major back surgery nov 2012 through a work injury as a carer in darwin. I has back surgery in adelaide with steel rods either side of my spine and screws and plates and bone graft. I have not recovered from surgery, in fact getting worse. The surgeon recommended that I have all the steel out as that may be the cause of not getting better. I am not sure and will be getting a second maybe third opinion. What is your opinion. I am afraid I may end up in a wheel chair. I am 52. Thank you

Hi
Thanks for your query
The rod and screw may be removed once the fractured bone has cosolidated. This may take upto 18 months to 24 months after surgery.Regarding pain you may start back exercises along with vitamin D after consultation with your doctor.
