Should Test For Acute Intermittent Porphyria Be Done During Attack?
My daughter has symptoms of acute intermittent porphyria, her immunologist tested for porphyria but not during an acute attack. My understanding is tests are often normal between attacks. But he immunologist says there is no reason to retest. We can easily trigger an attack, 2 know porphyria triggers cause her to get very sick, lack of carbs and the chemical used in making ceramics. I don t know if we should see another doctor or look for a different diagnosis.
Hi, dear. I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern. You may have acute intermittent porphyria. You should go for testing at time of attack. Porphobilinogen test is helpful. You should go for urine Porphobilinogen test. If it comes negative then you can think of other differential diagnosis. Consult your doctor and take treatment accordingly. Hope I have answered your question, if you have doubt then I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic. Wish you a very good health.
