Shoulder Pain Radiating Down The Arm, Elbow And Wrist With Tingly And Numb Fingers. Diagnosed Shoulder Impingement Inflamed By Overhead Use Of Arm. Right Diagnosis?

I have shoulder pain that radiates down my arm and into my elbow and wrist. The sudden onset of pain leaves my fingures feeling tingly and numb. I am an active individual. I am in softball this requires me to throw the ball on a daily basis. I am told that i have shoulder impingement which is inflamed due to overhead activity using my arm. What I'm try to find out is if this is the right diagnosis.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hi, radiating pain down to the wrist is less likely due to impingement. Cervical spine is usually the cause in radiculopathies. If your pain disappears with injection of a local anesthetic in the shoulder( sub-acromial injection) then it is likely to be a impingement. Try a short course of anti-inflammatory, if it does not subside get necessary tests done. Take care.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. K. Naga Ravi Prasad's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.
As far as my knowledge is concerned, pain arising from a shoulder joint problem will not radiate below the level of the elbow joint.
I suspect some pathology in your cervical spine which results in pain going down the limb and causing tingling & numbness in fingers.
So I suggest you to have an MRI scan for the cervical spine which picks up all the lesions and gives a possible diagnosis too.
Hope this information helps
