Sinusitis, Nasal Congestion, Running Nose, Pressure Sensation, Bronchitis. Taken Nasonex Nose Spray. Taken X Ray. What Now?

Hello, I just saw a doctor for dx of sinunitis & bronchitis. I was given an antibiotic, just started on 05/01/13 and nasonex nose spray, started as well on 05/01/13. My nose is really impacted, major nasal congestion and running. I blew my nose for some relief, blowing really hard due to the impaction. After blowing my nose, more so the right nostril than the left, I experienced what felt like some pressure in the corner of my left eye (the nasal congestion is in both nostrils, but really bad in the right nostril). It immediately started slightly feeling like there was something in it, almost as if there was a slight retina distachment or so. Is it possible, I have caused some damaged to my eye that is permanent or is that something naturally caused from the pressure and will clear up. I have not blown my nose really hard a whole lot since 05/01/13 which is when I started to blow this hard, but I just experienced this situation with my eye from the nose blow this morning on 05/02/13. The evening of 05/02/13, I blew really hard again and this time, didn't feel a lot of pressure in the eye only slightly, but I still have that detachment feeling in it, but I did feel pressure in my ears from the last blow and my ears are now slightly stopped up. I am now afraid, somewhat hesitant to blow my nose. Should I be concerned. Just visited the doctor on 05/01/13. Waiting for xrays of the sinuses and chest to rule out other dx such as pneumonia and to definately dx sinuitis and bronchitis, which is what he marked on my paperwork. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi,

Firstly, stop blowing your nose. Nose is situated centrally on the face and is connected to adjacent important structures including ears through a tube called eustachian tube and few of the sinus air cells are close to structures of the eyes. Blowing nose hard could transmit infection into the middle ears too. A change of pressure is usually felt in the ears because of alteration of middle ear pressure when you blow your nose hard.

Retinal detachment is associated with symptoms such as loss of peripheral vision, seeing floaters in eyes, flashes of light etc. You do not have any of such symptoms! It is very unlikely that you have retinal detachment which is caused post some surgeries like cataract surgery or in a person with near sight vision.

Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

This does not fit in with retinal detachment. The pressure increases during blowing - not restricted to the nose! / in the chest, in the skull... The easy solution is to visit an Ophthalmologist - in minutes, the doubt can be cleared....
The eyelid are connected to the nose - naso-lacrimal duct / the middle ear is connected to the throat - Eustachian tube Hence the symptoms....

Have a CT scan of the sinuses...

Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
