Small Child, Cough, Cold, Severe Ear Pain, Neck Pain. Treatment For Symptoms?
I went to the pediatrician yesterday for my 4 year old child who has been having cold and cough . Nothing was prescribed for her due to no need of antibiotics . He checked thoroughly. Today or last night at 3 am , my child has been crying and complaining of severe ear pain; Left ear more than right. Why so much pain now and no signs of this yesterday? Along with that she says that her Left side of her neck hurts. ( she said her brain hurts, but she pointed to her neck)

Your child is having respiratory infection and sometimes new symptoms take time to appear.ear pain is also part of same infection which could be viral or bacterial in nature.
I suggest you to give paracetamol for pain and in case symptoms persist you need to see your pediatrician again.

All these symptoms suggest that your child might be suffering from upper respiratory tract infection(most probably viral infection)
There is a connecting tract (known as Eustachian tube) between the nasopharynx & middle ear through which infection can spread to ear.
Also obstruction to this Eustachian tube can lead to ear pain by un-equalisation of pressure between the nasopharynx & middle ear.
The management consists of:
1. Drinking of warm fluids to reduce throat pain
2. Antihistamines to provide symptomatic relief from cold & cough.
3. Nasal decongestants to relieve ET tube obstruction.
4. Analgesics to take care of pain & fever(if any)
So...it will be better to consult the pediatrician & start treatment.
Wishing your daughter a speedy recovery.

Ear pain is common due to cough and cold in children. Poor drainage due to the blockage of eustachian tube leads to collection of some fluid in the ear .This causes ear pain.
This effusion may be infective( acute otitis media) or noninfective (serus otitis media) in origin.
So I would suggest you to consult an E.N.T. doctor for examination of ear canal and to make a diagnosis. Ear ache may refereed to neck region causing pain in neck.
In non infective case only conservative management will be required while in infective one antibiotics is the treatment.
