Small Child, Diarrhea, Bright Red Ring Around Anus. Taking Children's Pepto. Cure?
My five yr old son has had diarrhea for 3 days now and tonight not even his childrens pepto is helping. He literally can t be off the toilet for more than five minutes. He also has a bright red ring around his anus that at first i thought was just irritation due to the diarrhea but it s just gotten worse. Do I need to bring him in?
Hi
Is that bright red ring is painful? Because of diarrhea child might got perianal rash around the anus which will be painful. Or some times mild rectal mucosa descent(rectal prolapse) during diarrhea may present as red ring. Give oral rehydrating solutions to prevent dehydration and consult your Pediatrician for the examination and specific management.
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
As mentioned by you you child is having diarrhea for 3 days and now frequency has increased. The most important thing is to prevent dehydration so i will advise you to take him to pediatrician for evaluation,in the meantime give him plenty of fluids, give oral rehydration solution sip by sip after each loose stool.give coconut water, banana, boiled potato.rice with curd,if he accepts oral fluid and tolerate them then there is not much to worry as diarrhea will take few days to settle, but in case oral acceptance is not good then he has to be hospitalized.
regarding redness in perianal area this is due to constant irritation of that area, and will subside once loose motions get better.
You son will be fine,
God bless.
