Small Child, Suffering From Fever, Persistent Cough, Neck Pain. Cause Of Worry?
My son has a fever of 100 and has had a persistent cough for about two days. He is still eating and drinking just fine. Under the weather and complains that his neck is hurting. I asked if it was inside and gave the example does it hurt when you swallow , he said no but the muscles hurt on the outside. Should I be worried?
Hi,
The neck pain which your son seems to be complaining of might be because of excessive use of neck muscle while initaiting the cough reflex.Neverthless you should get his throat examined by your pediatrician to rule out congestion which might be in the initial stage so not leading to pain while swallowing.
Bye
Take Care.
Hello and welcome to health care magic. Thanks for your query
Since your child is having fever and neck pain ( muscle pain ), I would suggest you to see the pediatrician as early as possible.
Persistent fever and neck pain are two alarming signs for meningitis which can not be ignored.
Look for other alarming signs like- drowsiness, irritability, poor feeding, convulsions, head ache, vomiting, excessive unexplained crying.
For fever you can give your son calpol syrup and tepid sponging ( with cold water)
Wish you all the best
Regards
