Son Complaining Of Stomach Pain. Taking Previcid. Paralyzed Volcal Cord. Had Hernia. What Is Going On?
Hi, my son is 10 and he is complaining of a tummy ache for 4 days now. He says it burns and it is around his belly button, he was on previcid as a child till the age of 5. He aspirated a lot as a baby. Paralyzed volcal cord from PDA heart surgery. Also had hernia surgeries. Born at 26 weeks. He has been put back on 15 mg previcid! Is there something really wrong??
Prevacid is a medicine given to suppress acid production by the stomach.
The heart burn and tummy ache in upper abdomen is usually due to gastritis and associated reflux. That is why your doctor has advised Prevacid. Please follow your doctor`s advice. Usually a short course of 5 to 7 days is given.
How ever if reflux is persistent and he has nocturnal cough/ sleep troubles/ repeated lower respiratory infections, the duration of treatment will be prolonged.
Along with medications, elevation of the head end of the bed (not pillow) will help in reducing the reflux. Also avoid spicy food/ excess tea or coffee/ citrus fruits and juices/ skipping meals. These things may aggravate acidity.
Hope my answer helps you. Wish your son good health.
