Son Has Developed A Growth On The Neck. Has A Birth Mark On That Part. Varying In Size. Biopsy Shows To Be Reactive Lymph Node. Suggestions?

my son developed a growth on the his left part of the neck, apparrently he also has a birth mark on his head which appears to be on the sckin right above where there is the growth. It also appears to be serveral of the growths in varying sizes and shapes, last time a biopsy was taken its was said to be a reactive lymp node, and now chest xray shows that his chest is clear, the neck ultrasound shows that the growth appers to be growing towards the voice box
the blood test taken showed a slight decrease in the blood levels but a normal count of white blood cells, the doctor (ent) suggests that a biopsy needs to be taken again.but the child is only 8 and cannot continue suffering the operations(cuttings)pliz help

Pediatrician 's  Response
hi
Thanks for your query

i can feel your concerns

it's a good news that biopsy shows reactive lymphnode and not any malignant changes

i advise you to be in close collaboration with your ENT doctor

he is right that biopsy should be taken again and confirmed for it's reactive nature,as child ultrasound is not satisfactory

if it is reactive, then it should not grow fastly toward's voice box.growth is usually a feature of malignancy

donot be afraid of biopsy.it's just take a small piece but clarification of disease is important for correct treatment and child health

i am available for your help

Pediatrician Dr. Taher Y Kagalwala's  Response
Dear user,

It seems to me that it is more likely he has some form of congenital disorder with formation of new growths, and the lymph node removed earlier was just that ... a lymph node not connected to his other growths. There is no reason why he cannot go for a repeat biopsy, but first you should take him for a CT scan or MRI which will tell you the exact nature of the growth. If these are not conclusive, then and then only should you allow the doctor to go in with a scalpel.
