Sore Throat, Lump On Arm Below Elbow, Another Lump Under It. Treatment?
My 13yr old son was trying out for the school football team last week.he started having a sore throat friday night.on sunday night he noticed a quarter sized lump on his arm just below the elbow and a dime size lump about half an inch from that one..i am calling his dr. in the morning to get him an appt. Should i really be worried.he wouldnt let me take him to the er.he said he would wait and go to his dr
One possibility I can think of is acute rheuamtic fever which presents with sorethroat and subcutaneous nodules etc. This is usually seen following a streptococcal infection. I would advise you to take your son to a paediatrician as he needs a complete physical examination and certain blood tests like complete blood picture to look for leukocytosis, raised ESR or C reactive protein .
Any other history of joint pains, high grade fever, skin rash along with the current symptoms?
In the meantime, he should do warm saline gargles 3 times a day to get relief from sore throat. Drink plenty of warm fluids.
Hope this helps
Regards,
Dr. Divya Kuttikrishnan
