Started A Medical Abortion. Abortion Was Incomplete. Used Syringe. Now Have Tightness In Abdomen, Cramps, Brown Discharge. Does It Indicate Any Abnormality?
I started on a medical abortion 4 weeks ago. Two weeks after taking the pills I had severe bleeding and was rushed to hospital. The abortion was almost entirely incomplete. The doctor did a rush aspiration and pulled large clots out using metal things before using a giant syringe. I don't think he was very careful. They sent me off but now I have tightness in my abdomen, slight cramps and no bleeding or discharge at all except a smelly brown discharge five days after. I'm dizzy and get tired easily. I'm worried something might be wrong becaise there was a cyst in my uterus but the doctor did not offer examination after the proceedure to tell me if my uterus is intact and whether the cyst would cause complication. I don't even know what a cyst is. The heaviness in my belly is worrying. COould something have gonw wrong?
Hello Thanks for your query. Following any kind of abortion ( surgical or medical ) - it is common to experience some amount of pain and discomfort for a few days. However, after a month, this pain and discomfort is not normal. ALso, the smelly discharge is not normal. You could have had an infection following the procedure. Please have a follow up visit, including a pelvic ultrasound to rule out incomplete abortion, retained products of conception or an infection. Make sure you do not conceive again for the next 3 months. Take care.
