Stinging Sensation In Eyes, Hot Oil Got Into Eyes, Flushed With Cold Water. Suggestions? Is It Permanent Eye Damage?

Hi,

I was asking with olive oil and I drops of the hot oil got into my eye whilst cooking. I shut my eye lid and there was at first no pain and then it began to sting and I got a bit teary. I flushed out a bit with cold water (barely two seconds) but stopped when I realised that I might be doing more harm than good. The slight stinging sensation stayed till I went to bed and I thought it had stopped when I woke up this morning but now it has come back . Any suggestions. Is it permanent eye damage?

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hi, Hot oil drop in your eye may have damaged your cornea or conjunctiva. It may cause decrease vision, pain, watering and burning sensation. Clean your eyes with water properly. Start on an antibiotic drop 4 times a day and some tear substitute like refresh tears or just tears 6 times a day. If there is more pain take paracetamol tab 500 mg two times a day.If the signs and symptoms are not subsiding in two days show to your nearest ophthalmologist....TC..
