Stressed, PTSD, MS, Anxiety Attacks, Sternum Pain, Barrett S Disease. Taken Aspirin. What Is The Solution?

Yes, thank you. I am under a lot of stress for a while, financially, helping my daughter through nursing school. She is finished now, but 3 months after finishing her 30 yr old husband had to had an aortic valve replacement which he is expressing great post traumatic stress from. At the the same time my younger daughter was wed a few weeks later, lots of guest! My oldest son has MS. My youngest son experiences extreme anxiety attacks, but manages to work, but has trouble being out in public! I am a worrier, which i know accomplishes nothing. Last week i awoke one morning with extreme bone crushing pain in my sternum. My moaning woke my husband up after about 5 minutes. I was short of breath. I knew i probably should call 911, but first asked my husband for an aspirin. I was thinking if it was my barrett s disease acting up i would feel more like the feeling i usually have with that problem and if it was circulatory, my heart, that i might get relief. Within 2-3 minutes the pain went away but i was tired from it. What do you think it was? Sorry for the long prelude, but i also thought maybe it was purely stress while i slept.

Hi,

A severe pain in the retrosternal area that wakes you up from sleep is very unlikely to be simply due to stress or anxiety. In my opinion, you should inform your doctor about the episode so that he can run some tests and find out what could have caused it. I feel that least an electrocardiogram must be done to rule out angina. Your Barrett's disease may also be responsible and I feel you should not neglect this.

Best wishes.
