Last night my throat just randomly started hurting, I look at my throat and I have tiny purple dots in the back of my throat. All last night I kept waking up cause my throat just hurt, then I got a headache . This morning my throat is bright red compared to the rest of my mouths cavity. My ears hurt when I swallow , I feel tired and just all together sick...Should I get an antibiotic? I think amoxicllin would be the best but I do have Doxycycline on hand should I just take that??
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
With the available described symptoms, there appears to be possibility of acute upper respiratory tract infection with spread to middle ear by Eustachian tube.
Presence of ear ache and throat congestion suggests the diagnosis.
You should consult with internal medicine specialist and ENT surgeon simultaneously and should go for thorough check up.
You should go for complete blood count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate and chest x ray, throat swab culture and sensitivity.
Ear check up is mandatory to rule out ear pathology.
You should take complete antibiotic course, decongestants and mucolytics.
Avoid cold drinks, oily and spicy food.
Perform gargles three times in day.
Take care,

Thank you for your query.
Probably it is one type of pharyngitis.
Ear pain is common due to associated inflammation of the Eustachian tube which is the connecting tube of the nasopharynx & middle ear cavity.
Gurgle with warm fluid & take plenty of it.
You may take simple analgesia for pain.
Take care.
