Suffering From Anxiety, OCD, Panic Attacks. Taking Cipralex And Klonopine. What Can I Do About It?
Hi, My 22 year old son suffers from anxiety, OCD and panic attacks. He has been taking 10 mg Cipralex since 6years and has started taking 50 mg Zoloft since one month. He gets panic attacks on the Public Transit which are accompanied by a sudden urge to to urinate. This causes him to get off the bus frequently and avoid using the Subway completely. i have read that taking Klonopine wafers during such situation can help. Is that correct and what would be the appropriate dosage so he does not feel sleepy afterwards. If not then what would you suggest. He takes occasional Lorazepam during panic attacks but it makes him groggy.I would very much appreciate your advice as his life has become a misery. Thanks in advance Fatima
The patient needs to see a Psychiatrist who can do Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) or counselling along with the medication. If the Citalopram/Cipralex is not working adequately,Venlafaxine or Clofranil(Sertaline or Zoloft may work equally well) may be given a trial. The counselling and therapy along with medication has been found to give the best results in such situations. The benzodiazepine Clonazepam/Lorazepam should be given till the antidepressant can help control the problem.
