Suffering From High Cholesterol. Advised To Take Storvas, Knee And Elbow Pain. Is Knee Pain Side Effect?

My husban is 50yrs old. doctor has prescribed him Storvas for cholestoral. During normal check up he was advised to get CPK test. His cpk result shows 371. Then doctor changed his medicine to tonact. In the meantime while taking storvas he had pain in knees and in his elbows twice. Our family doctor suggested that this is the side effect of storvas and asked him to stop and take tonact and go for test after two months. Is this true that pain in knees was due to the medicine side effects plse help

Hello,
The use of storvas can cause musculoskeletal side effects in a person. Most of the times minor forms like arthralgia or myalgia are seen but severe forms like myopathy or rhabdomylosis occurs very rarely.
I don't think that pain in knee and elbow was due to the use of storvas. In such a case he should have had general muscle weakness and generalised pain and that too continuous.
In fact your doctor also doesn't think that your pain in knee or elbow is due to storvas because both storvas and TONACT are same thing.basic salt of both of them is atorvastatin.
As per the advise of your doctor, continue your medication and test CPK after 6 weeks.
Stop taking TONACT or storvas if values are found more than 5 times normal and if you have severe muscular symptoms.
Thanks
