Suffering From High Eosinophil Counts, Suggested For More Blood Work. Cause For High Level?
tsI have had several blood test results come back with high eosinophil counts. My most recent results showed the eosinophils, absolute were 952 and the % was 17.3. I recently saw a Dr with the copy of these results and he indicated that they were very high and ordered more blood work. He did not tell me what could be causing such levels. Could you tell me what could cause levels this high?
Hi! Thank you for your question! Eosinophils are white blood cells responsible for fighting parasites and are also cells associated with allergy and asthma. High eosinophil counts can be due to several conditions and disease processes. Some of these include an allergic reaction, parasitic and fungal infections, some forms of malignancies and autoimmune diseases, and others. However, we cannot pinpoint any specific cause with just complete blood counts. Your doctor is, therefore, correct in ordering more tests. In the meantime, try to be patient while waiting for the results of your tests. I hope you find about what is causing this elevation soon. Take care!
