Suffering From Panic Attacks Before Periods And Hot Flashes. Taking Effexor. What Can I Do?

HI just wondering if you heard of women having panic attacks just before a hot flash? I had a biopsy done on thyroid, six needles in total. Two days later on plane and started to have a panic attack, which was followed by sweating a lot very hot, then followed by chills. Do you think this happened because they distrubed the thyroid? I have had panic attacks my whole life and was able to handle them pretty good, but few months ago they started just before period would come and very intense...Dr. put me on Effexor and they have stopped. I really should have been taking this 20 years ago. So it really surprised me on plan when this happened. What do you thing? Do you think I may have panic attacks in future with hot flashes, because it was soooo intense I couldnt even move, I thought I would pass out and get sick.

Hello...
Thanks for your query. Efflexor is venlafaxine which is a SNRI group of anxiolytic drug. Hot flashes related to menstrual cycles/menopause are related to hormonal disturbances and are closely related to panic attacks of anxiety disorder. This is why efflexor is a preferred medication in hot flashes. You definitely have possibility of similar panic attacks in future as well and efflexor would be a good choice. Yoga, meditation and breathing relaxation exercises are also likely to be beneficial.
