Suffering From Rheumatic Heart Decease Mitral Valve Stenosis. Size Improved After PBMV Procedure. Now, Again Size Has Reduced. Should The Procedure Be Done Again?
Dear Sir/Madam, my name Sankara. I am suffering from rheumatic heart decease Mitral valve stenosis. I under went proceedure PBMV in 2004. Post proceedure mitral valve sized improved to 1.5 sqcm from 0.8. Recent results are MVA is 1sqcm. Is it useful to go for PBMV again to improve mitral valve size or replace or repair proceedure. Please guide me. I am just 42 years old. I have two young children s. I don t like to go big open heart surgery. Is there any safe option to repair mitral valve without big option?
Dear Sir / Madam Thanks for writing to HCM. If your valve anatomy (structure ) is suitable for PBMV, yes it can be done again. However if there are changes which predicted a failure or higher risk of complications (like excessive calcification or bilateral commissural fusion), then you may not be able to get it dilated by a percutaneous procedure. Hope this helps. Sincerely Sukhvinder
