Suggest A Better Alternative To Amoxicillin

I took my son into a walk in clinic two days ago with little fever and white spots in his throat. Nurse did a strip throat culture but was negative. She did proscribed amoxicillin which he takes two tablets twice a day at 500 mg. He started to form a little red spots on his hands and couple spots on his face is that normal?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms of your son seem to be related to an alert reaction to amoxicillin. I suggest to stop the medication and give him antihistamines such as Cetirizine 10 mg daily.

I recommend to switch the Amoxicillin to another antibiotic such as Clarithromicin. It is a prescription medication.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
