Suggest After Effects Of A Hip Fracture Surgery

I am 65 year old indian woman and i had a serious hip fracture recently in which the top of femur was broken into several pieces as i also have osteoporosis.I have undergone surgery and they have put a plate over the fractured area.Do u think will i ever be able to walk on my own without a support?

Hi,

Now a days, we can fix most of the hip fractures and for the remaining that cant be fixed we prefer to replace the broken part. Since your surgeon prefers to do fixation over replacement it means there are high chances of bony union. Only aim of hip surgery in elderly patients is to make the patient walk, so there should not be any concerned regarding the bony union and ambulation. As far as osteoporosis is concerned it is a treatable condition, and doesn't pose to be a threat for fracture union.
