Suggest Alternative Medication For Gabapentin With Less Side Effects

Yes...I have been on gabapentin for 15 or more years for neuropathy. i am very fatigued and have week legs now. Is there something else I can take that will help control pain? My Dr thinks this is the best medicine with fewer side effects that I can take. My balance is really bad and sometimes I have a problem with foggy thinking. I have friends that cannot take gabapentin because it messes with their balance.

General Surgeon 's  Response
For Nuropathic discomfort, Gabapentin is an older generation medication. The newer medication is capsule Pregabalin. It has less side effects and better action to relieve the nuropathic parasthesia. The dose is determined depending on many factors, like degree of nuropathy, age, any other medication you are taking. In proper dosages, it usually gives very good relief in 3 to 4 weeks. However, it should be generally taken for a period of 3 to 5 months or more, for complete relief of the problem. You can consult a Neurologist or Podiatric surgeon for the dosages of the medicine appropriate for you.
