Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Why Is Gabapentin Prescribed While Suffering From Backache?
My doctor prescribed Gabapentin for my back pain due to arthritis. However, it appears to be a medication that is used to treat epilepsy. Additionally, there are severe side effects that seem more threatening than the back pain. Can you explain why this medication would ve been prescribed and, how prevalent are the typical side effects
Gabapentin is an anti-epileptic drug that may be used to treat very severe pains and neurologic pains. Your doctor may prescribe this drug for arthritis if he judges the intensity of your pain to be too high. Before prescribing, the risks and benefits of the drug are always evaluated. Side effects do exist but the drug is well tolerated. Just give it a try as prescribed till you meet your doctor again.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mbuomboh Veranso
