Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a staph infection in my arm from eczema. I have had it on and off for a few weeks, previously took a 10 day course of flucoxacillin and it went away mostly, but then came back after a couple of weeks. I have now been taking a second course of them for 2 days (will be on 10 days total). They dont seem to be working so far, my eczema is crusting over (looks yellow) and the big pimples/boils I have from the staph infection are still there. Some feel less full of puss than before, some of them still have pus in them. My arm is still a little swollen and red, and quite sore. Should I be concerned, or will it take longer for the flucoxacillin to work?
I would suggest you take culture and sensitivity of the pus to identify the sensitive antibiotic.Meanwhile antibiotic creams like mupirocin or bacitracin can be applied locally along with the oral antibiotic. Elevated blood sugar levels can cause delay in the healing.Kindly check your blood sugar levels both fasting and post prandial (2 hours after food).
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
