Suggest Any New Oral Anti Diabetic Drug For Diabetes
Dear Dr, I would like a brief idea about switchover to new oral antidiabetic meds in india like januvia, onglyza etc from traditional meds like metformin. what is the current trend? is a large no.of the diabetic patient population successfully shifting to these new drugs compared to the cheaper, older options?
Dear Sir/Madam The newer generation of drugs under the class DPP4 inhibitors are very good. no doubt about that. But i am very sure that nothing in this class can replace metformin. If you go through literature these new drugs are tried with metformin. Although these drugs claim to increase beta cell volume concrete large volume studies on indian patients is still awaited. Newer drugs are costly as well. So when you can get good health with cheaper drug why spend more. Currently most of use these DPP IV inhibitors only as add on therapy. Thank you for contacting HCM with such an important question..
