Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m currently on Simvastatin for cholesteral, but the dosage has been reduced in half recently because of reduced cholesteral levels. My doctor now wants me to go for a blood test twice a year (I ve been going once a year), because of new guidelines. I m upset and disagree because of the better readings and this new guideline excuse but what can I do about it?
Hi there and congratulations on lowering that cholesterol. As an experienced cardiology nutritionist I say the doctor is doing you a favor. Do you really want to be taking more of a statin drug than you have to or less than the amount to do the job? Try to get over the anger and understand the doctor is looking after your well being and health with the intention of preventing a stroke or other life-changing cardiac event. We complain constantly that doctors don't do their jobs. We have to cooperate with them when they do try to do the best job possible with your health in mind.
If it would help, have your doctor or a cardiac RD explain the guidelines to you and how they relate to health outcomes so you may better understand why you seem to be given this extra misery of having to go see your doc more often.
