I had a sore throat that lasted 10 days. I went to the DR on day 7 and he advised me that a long term sore throat is going around. I felt better for 2 days, but it returned only on the left side of my throat, then after another 2 day the whole back of my throat is sore, including the sides of tounge in the back. I do not have a cough or fever. this all started 15 days ago....

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
A recurrent sore throat can be without any pathogens due to eating very hot food, smoking or dry throat.
But the possibility of infection cannot be neglected. Routine examination &culture -sensitivity test of the throat is advisable as a routine on patients like you to exclude infection.
In case the test is + ve, the course of a suitable antibiotic is advised Please consult an ENT surgeon.
In case you have a good control of diabetes is desired. Certain lifestyle changes like eating less oily, spicy & hot food/ avoiding cold drinks or ice creams / doing warm water saline gargle twice a day/avoid exposure to dust or smoke or any other known allergen.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
