Hi... i am a 61 yo female with no serious medical problems. Lately i've been having, every other day or so, cramps of foot and lower legs. Just now i had a horrible "cramp" in what i think is the vastus medialis of my right upper leg. Is there something i'm missing in my diet to stop the cramps??
Good morning. I don't have much information to work from, but what I have found in my nutrition clients is cramping in the lower legs can most frequently be caused by low magnesium (common in patients on stomach pills), low potassium (do not ever supplement yourself), poor circulation. To have it cramp in the upper leg and only the right one does tend to make me wonder if you need to have your leg checked any possible medical condition prior to thinking it might be a deficiency. As always, assure adequate calcium (800-1200 mg) and adequate vitamin D3 (1,000-5,000) is commonly prescribed.
Your original question can only be answered by looking at and analyzing a food diary with at least two days during the week and one day from the weekend.
