What Could Be The Reason For Having Swelling On My Knee?

Twice I was doing squats and it caused a huge swelling of the knee; mainly at the lower vastus lateralis. I have gout fairly often and believed this was the cause. The knee could not be bent at all; very little pain, just swollen. After about 3 weeks, I fully recovered both times. Now, I was jumping on a trampoline and the swelling has remained for 6 months. Sometimes less, sometimes more, but I can at least walk on it. Any ideas?
