Hello. Thank you for your question and welcome to HCM. I understand your concern.
These cholesterol levels are actually high. At your age of 39 years old, my opinion is that we should try the diet, before we go to medical treatment. Let us carefully go through your diet:
- Diet rich in fibres - green or dark green leafy vegetables, salads and more fruit
- Little or none of red and raw meat
- More chicken and other poultry, and fish (it contains omega 3 fatty acids or "good fat")
- No animal derived oils or sunflower oil, but as much as olive oil
- Alcohol should be restricted to a maximum of 30 g
ethanol a day. That means: maximum of two beers with standard percentage (5%); or one glass of wine; or one shot (0.5 deciliter) of heavy alcohol (gin, vodka, bourbon).
Also, you should have a regular physical activity, like walking, jogging, biking, swimming, going to the gym, for 60 minutes/7 days a week.
Three months after you have been on this regimen, you should be tested again for
total cholesterol,
LDL and
HDL fractions, and triglycerides. If there are no significant changes in your cholesterol levels, then we have to go with drug therapy for cholesterol-lowering.
I hope I was of help. Feel free to ask again. Kind regards.
