Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I recently read a news article about a 57 year old woman taking Metformin and it triggered hot flashes, nnight sweats, nausea, stomach pains and dyrreha. My PG doubled my Metformin from 1000 up to 2000 mg per day 6 weeks ago, and I am suffering the same symptoms, at age 75... When I told her, the recommendation was to cut the tablet into 4ths & take it 4x/day. Would you have a better solution?
With metformin gut side effects are common .My advice is to stop metformin few days and than start afresh with minimum dose may be 500 mgs/day . Slow release coated metformin tablets are better tolerated but do not break them.
