Hi,I am Neethu Vipin (Dietitian & Nutritionist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Suggest Exercise To Reduce Lower Back Pain And Leg Pain
I am having problems walking and my lower back and my left leg hurts. I had an MRI which showed spinal stenious and protruding discs in my back. I also have a bone rubbing on a nerve. I had an epidural which did no good. Are there any exercises that I can do to help?
There are exercises that can be helpful. A physical therapist can draft out an exercise routine to alleviate pain and strengthen opposing muscles to relieve pressure on the nerve root. A chiropractor is often suggested to teach such exercises as well and do manipulations to relieve the nerve compression. The last option is acupuncture which has shown some success in relieving nerve root compression pain.
Please explore these options. If none of these work, surgical options have come a long way in safe and effective alternatives. My best wishes to you, Kathy J. Shattler, MS,RDN
