Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi !! I was at an ENT doctor today. I have had problems with a swollen tongue, he gave me literature on Burning mouth syndrome. Everything it says about it pretty much describes it. He wanted to put me on a low dose of Gabapentin. I am hesitant on taking anything. Is there any home remedies I can do or take. Would menopause be a cause of this.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of swollen tongue which seems to be due to burning mouth syndrome due to stress, dehydration, hot and acidic food, vitamin deficiency like vitamin B12 and folic acid.
Need not to worry. I would suggest you to do warm saline rinses 2-3 times a day and do hydrogen peroxide rinses mix with equal amount of water twice a day. You should avoid hot and spicy food. If condition doesn't get better in 3-4 days then consult oral pathologist or dentist for proper examination and to rule out condition. Doctor may prescribe drugs like sucralfate, gabapentin and antibiotics.Apply orabase gel to prevent irritation and exaggeration of symptoms. Drink plenty of fluids.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
