1.There can be multiple reasons for tinnitus [problems with the
inner ear or auditory nerve are common], since mild
hearing loss is also there.
2. The middle ear pathology can also lead to tinnitus but usually the examination findings or findings of pure tone and impedence
audiometry help in differentiating the cause whether in middle ear or inner ear.
3. Most common causes of tinnitus are earwax,medicines ,drinking an excessive amount of alcohol or caffeinated beverages,ear infections or eardrum rupture , injuries,a rapid change in environmental pressure.
4. Use of aspirin, products containing aspirin, and other nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are known to cause tinnitus.
5. avoid caffeine,
nicotine, or cocaine, excess talking, head bath, excess exercise and sexual intercourse, avoid professional activities which involve high frequency sounds, dry fruits and bitter and
astringent food,limit aspirin containing products, exercise regularly, practice relaxation techniques
6. try herbal supplement
ginkgo biloba.
7. Since it is a vata disorder thus treatment will focus on Vata balancing therapies and herbs along with Rasayan [Immunomodulation] Chikitsa i.e. to strengthen the Immune system, and successful prescription in such cases are:
i. Rasayan with Ghee intake [sariva vati/ sariva chooran]
ii. indu vati with juice of amla morning/evening
iii. Putting drops of jaitun tail [olive oil] or sesame oil in ears is effective for tinnitus,hearing loss.
PS. If the hearing loss requires a
hearing aid, the issue of tinnitus should also be discussed with audiologist and hearing aid can be programmed to neutralize the tinnitus.
