Hi,I am Neethu Vipin (Dietitian & Nutritionist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I've recently begun working out at the Gym. I am a 52 3/4 year old male. I used to run alot. completed several marathons and used to be in a whole lot better shape than I am now. I an 6' and right at 200 lbs. I want to lose weight and get health. My wife says HR of 160 BPM during my 2 -3 x weekly workout is too high. I've been working out for about 1.5 - 2 hours for the last month. Your thoughts?
Usually there is a rule for workouts. Try more weight less times in youth, less weight more times in old age. That's a golden rule. You may be a marathon runner in youth but you cant do those things now. Your knees experienced a lot of wear and tear now. So its not good to run or jog at this age. Do exercise or longer duration with less effort for good health. Go for speed walk but don't jog.
Do stretching exercises. Along with exercise slowly cut down calories and salt. Slowly start taking more dietary fibre in the form of fruits vegetables and unpolished cereals for good weight loss results. Coming to BPM count of heart rate.. leave the counting method. Just do exercises with little effort for longer durations, like 1 to 1.5 hrs daily. Those are my thoughts as a medical personnel.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
