Hi

I am 17 weeks pregnant and my blood Investigation- ESR (Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate) is 78 mm/hr

Also, my Haemoglobin (EDTA Blood/Automated Blood cell Counter) is 11.2 g/dL

Packed Cell Volume(PCV) is 33.3

RBC Count is 4.04 mill/cu.mm

My doctor has not yet given me iron & calcium supplements. Please help.

Anemia from iron deficiency is common in pregnancy. If you were my patient, I would do another blood test to see if you have iron deficiency or some other cause of anemia, and treat with the correct supplement (which would be iron if you have iron deficiency anemia). Pregnant women should be taking a vitamin supplement with folate, so be sure to ask your doctor to prescribe this for you. I am concerned about your ESR. It is very high. This can be caused by a lot of conditions, some that may be serious. You need to have further testing to see what is causing it. The ESR can't be directly treated- you need to find out the cause and treat that.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help
