Suggest Medication For Asthma That Do Not Contain Corticosteroids
What drugs are available for asthma that do not have cortisteroids.? I am presently taking Flovent and I am having side affects. I cannot take Symbicort because of leg cramps, which I also had with Singulair. Singulair was the best for the asthma symptons, until I just could not tolerate the cramps(night time) any more.
Flovent is composed of 'Fluticasone propionate', which belongs to glucocorticoids, a class of corticosteroids.
Symbicort is composed of Budesonide, a corticosteroid, with formoterol, a long-acting β2-agonist.
If you want to avoid corticosteroids, then you need to go for medications containing formoterol and ipratropium bromide.
Ipratropium bromide is a short-acting anticholinergicbronchodilator. However, taking corticosteroids which would act locally in the form of inhalers or rotocaps through rotohalers would not cause much systemic side effects as compared with intake of corticosteroids orally.
Kindly consult your doctor before a change of medication for appropriate dosage and mode of its use.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Ashakiran S,
