Suggest Medication For Chronic Spine Pain Despite Taking Hydrocodone
Hello my name is Bettie and I have two herniated discs in my spine. The Dr. I saw just gave me hydrocodone, however my body has gotten used to that medication. I have tried many different pills, patches, and am considering the surgery. The main question I have for you is what would be a good medication for me? I am extremely hard to medicate, I realize you all must hear this statement a lot, however I can assure you that is not the case here. so please let me know what pain medication would help someone like me. thank you. D. Pulley
Medications apart from opiates like hydrocodone include non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs and medication for chronic and neuropathic pan which include antidepressants like Duloxetine, Nortriptyline and anticonvulsants like Gabapentin, Pregabalin.
When these are not enough then local shots of steroids and analgesics may help. Conservative measures like physical therapy, traction therapy or acupuncture are other options. None is perfect, only a percentage of patients benefit, but those are what is at our disposal for now.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Olsi Taka,
