Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son is suffering from major depression for last 2 years He is 28 years good health, his weight is 90kg and inspite of exercise and control on food intake weight does not reduce. He is on daxid and lithium carbonate for the last 6 months. Improvement in depression is slow. How he can control his weight.
Hello, Thanks for choosing health care magic for posting your query. I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through. Its unfortunate that he is not improving his depressive symptoms although daxid is a good drug but 2 years have been way too long a treatment. Although your psychiatrist has tried to augment it with lithium you need to augment the treatment with further therapies as well. Other augmenting agents are antipsychotics like olanzapine or quetiapine and thyroid hormone supplementation. Other options are valproate or lamotrigine which are used in resistant depression. For weight loss the main way of treatment is through aerobic exercises. he has to go for regular aerobic exercises with reduced diet. Also a course of Metformen may help the patient. Hope I am able to answer your concerns. If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
