Suggest Medication For High BP, Rapid Heart Rate And Mood Swings

Hi, my name is Cassi and I am 26. I have been extremely active most of my life and close to obsessed with lifting weights. I have had health problems in the past couple years that is getting in the way of this. Problems that I have: high blood pressure- every 2 months changing meds and adding to try and control it; rapid heart rate- 120 when I m sitting and 200 when I m doing a routine workout; moody- very irritated and more emotional then ever- on antidepressant now; extreme weight gain- 60 lbs in 1.5 years and I m still working out and eating clean 80% of the time. Typically women (even me in the past) build lean muscle with strength training but I m bulking like a man and my creatinine levels are higher; very very exhausted, regardless the amount of sleep I get. I feel like I need to nap but naps do not fix the exhaustion feeling- yet I have a hard time sleeping at night; I have had hair thinning, not too extreme though; I retain an unrealistic amount of water weight even though I watch my sodium intake now more than ever; I am achy a lot- my muscles hurt a lot like I am lacking something in my body, especially when I m lifting; My kidney function has been up and down. It s finally back up and stabilized at 90% now. They ve checked me for thyroid problems because i have a family history of it but nothing s showing up on tests. In 4 months I see another Endocrinologist to get another opinion. Please help me.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since you have high BP, have obesity and experiencing rapid heart beats with complains of water retention you are suggested to get a cardiac check up done. Get clinically examined by a cardiologist, get Lipid profile, CBC, Blood glucose (R/PP), X-ray, echo, EKG, stress tests done at the earliest. Heart problems also cause fatigue and unnatural tiredness. Avoid doing strenuous and heavy exercises. Do regular walking in the morning and evening. Since Creatinine level is high and water retention is also there, it is indicative that your kidneys are not working well to remove all toxins and wastes from your body.

Control your diet. Avoid red meat, protein sources, including dairy products. Take more fruits, veggies and plant based proteins. Avoid salty food, cut on salt intake. Avoid oily spicy food, carbs, sugar, refined flour and addictions if any. Get repeat thyroid tests done since you have a family history. Stay well hydrated. Avoid constipation, take laxatives at bed time. Take adequate sleep. Take multi vitamin supplements. You can take Acetaminophen, one SOS for relief when your muscles hurt. Get treated at the earliest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
