Suggest Medication For Hypnic Jerks During Sleep That Can Be Taken Along With Clonopin. Does Propranolol Help?
I have been treating panic disorder for the past 25 years with small doses of clonopin. However, I have been suffering from repeated hypnic jerks upon the onset of sleep! These jerks occur during napping and night time sleep! They are so severe, it feels as if I have been shocked awake with a painful thump in my chest and sometimes in my head! They can reoccur each time I attempt to fall back to sleep as many times as nine consecutive times--every 15 min or so ! These are frightening and have cause panic attacks in the past! Sleep studies do not explain or even record these events! My whole body jumps from the mattress ! One alcoholic drink along with 1.5 mg of clonopin have controlled these jerks at night, but during nap time they are as bad as ever! This has been going on for years and are very disturbing and annoying! I feel as if my heart has stopped for a second or a temporary seizure ! I was wondering if propranolol in addition to the clonopin would help with this problem! Please help me!
well hypnic jerks can be normal or can be due to certain drug side effects. You can try using hypnotic which are immediately acting like mouth dissolving clonazepam rather than regular preparation another option is using lorazepam instead of clonazepam.Adding propranolol can be helpful especially if symptoms are associated with palpitation, sweating etc like panic attack. Its worth a trial. If none is working then may be prazozin or clonidine can be thought of
