Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My prescribed traz for insomnia. She only prescribed 3 pills. Had a terrible migraine while taking it. Finished pill 3/3 Thursday and my head still throbs. I have a prescription for tramadol (as needed for migraines) as well as maxalt. Can I take any of these? Can I get some relief?
Since you have insomnia you will have to make few lifestyle. Maintain regular sleep schedule. Cut on smoking, alcohol, caffeine 4-5 hour before going to bed. Avoid heavy meals for dinner. Keep the bedroom reserved for sleep and sex only. Keep the bedroom dimly lighted, mattress comfortable and colors (of bed sheets, curtains and walls) light or dull.
You can take medicines like Ramelteon (Rozerem) and antidepressant drugs. Benzodiazepines are also effective. The medicines should be combined with counselling, physical therapy and psychotherapy. Insomnia triggers migraine. For migraine you can take sumatriptan (Imitrex) or naproxen (Treximet).
Avoid spicy oily food and food to which you are allergic. Maintain your food intake times. Take small meals multiple times a day. Stay well hydrated, take adequate sleep. Avoid stress and anxiety, cut on addictions if any.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
