Suggest Medication For Maxillary Sinusitis And Discharge Through Mouth?
Hi Doctor, I have been getting shock like pain beside my nose and above my upper jaw bone. I had gone through CT scan and diagnosed with bilateral maxillary sinusitis. I started taking antibiotics for 3 months after consulting a doctor. I am getting drainage through my mouth. It is smelling very bad. Is it OK to be on antibiotics for 3 months? Do you think my facial shock pain will go away after 3 months? Its been 3 weeks into antibiotics now. I still have pain same as before starting the medicine. Thanks for your answer.
Hello, Maxillary sinusitis usually presents with facial pain, nasal symptoms, post nasal drip.Usually bacterial predominate in causing these infections,Foul smelling discharge induces suspicion of fungal infestation of sinus,In such cases a long standing history of allergy is usually positive.Taking a ct scan of sinuses will show extent of disease or if there are complications,as a tool for planning of surgery (if any)The initial management of maxillary sinusitis is with antibiotics usually given for 2-3 weeks and pain killers.decongestant nasal drops/nasal spray.A repeat scan is advisable in your case to know if there is improvement/worsening.Further management might be needed for you depending upon these and consult an ENT specialist for expert management. Thank you
